¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨
It has been just about one year since we at the Motele Shul along with the other synagogues of our community shut down due to the pandemic. Even after opening after Pesach, life has not returned to normal. Attendance is down, masks must be worn throughout the building, services are truncated, and the pandemic is far from over. This week we conclude the reading of Sefer Shemos. We take a full accounting of the inventory and assets of the mishkan and all of its moving parts. At the same time we take our own accounting not just in filing our tax returns but as we are to usher in Chodesh Nisan we begin to rid ourselves of the chometz and enter a period of purity of soul and mind. Let us hope that as we burn the chometz we will leave Covid far behind and welcome Chodesh Nisan with health and prosperity. Chazak, Chazak, V’nischazak.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨
As we pass the one year “anniversary”of the Covid pandemic we are still not able to ask why only to seek consolation the best way we might, through prayer, meditation and friends. This coming shabbos we read the maftir from Parshas Chukas and the laws of the “red heifer.” Here again the mystery and seemingly illogical ritual require us to accept without hesitation G-D’s laws. While we attempt to understand even the illogical we nevertheless innately understand we are part of G-D’s world.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨
The greatest miracle this year on Purim is just the fact that we are well enough to read this bulletin and some of us will be able to be in shul for the laining of the Megillah. It is almost a year that we went into lock down. Last year Purim was the last time we were in shul together, celebrating a seudah, singing Purim songs, and joyously toasting Mordechai and Esther. Much has changed since then. The message of Purim however remains the same. We thank Hashem for saving the Jewish people from an impending pogrom hatched by the wicked Haman and we cherish human life and dignity on this very day.

Happy Purim

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨
The logical laws articulated in Parshas Mishpatim may seem self explanatory. The truth is they make up the basic framework of the commandments. Without these foundations expressing the importance of respecting others as rights granted from Hashem the world would descend into chaos. In fact it did more than once but we especially remember the Holocaust as the most brutal violation of human decency ever perpetrated. Thus we carefully hold the tenets of Parshas Mishpatim to be among the most important not just for the Jewish people but for all human kind to emulate.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

With today’s videos and twenty four hour news cycle coverage bombarding our computers and smart phones one might watch the same catastrophe over and over again to the point of despair. Case in point; the insurrection at the Capital. In fact, more to come once the impeachment trial begins in two weeks. Contrast that with the instructions as found in this week’s Parashas Beshalach to the Bnei Yisroel following the parting of the Sea of Reeds and the subsequent drowning of the pursuing Egyptian army. To combat the natural inclination to watch the disaster unfolding and the spoils of victory behind them, the Bnei Yisroel are instructed to look away and march onward. These sentiments remind us to as well to look forward and not dwell on the same scenes. Yes, its important to remember and hold perpetrators accountable, but one should not let their lives be overtaken by events. The way to Sinai requires discipline and perseverance. That was the task of the Bnei Yisroel in this coming week’s Parashas Beshalach and that is our obligation today.

REFUAH SH’LAIMAH:
To all those who are not well as well as those worldwide with this virus. We mention their names at each Torah reading and think about them in our private tefillos. Let Hashem hear our tefillos on their behalves, and all have a speedy recovery. If there is a choleh that needs a misheberach, please email their name to anshemotele@sbcglobal.net .
Since we are not at shul with Torah readings, in your private shmone esrai, you can include in the “Refaeinu” paragraph a special tefilla for the cholim that you have in mind.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

The importance of teaching our children about the slavery in Egypt and its eventual liberation is emphasized in this week’s parshas Bo. This mitzvah constitutes the essence of the Passover Seder and its yearly celebration. We see and now understand that our future follows our the next generations accomplishments, spiritual and existential. This week the Kehilla Fund will be soliciting our community for funds for Jewish education. Please be generous “L’maan Yadu Doroseicham” so that the generations will know!

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

The relationship between the Jewish people and Hashem has been transformed in this week’s Parsha. While the Egyptians suffer through the plagues there is finally a sense that Hasehm has heard the cries and pleas from the depths of slavery and despair. We see now the coming of the geulah and pray for a similar redemption for our times as well.
