¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

One of the most perplexing difficulties in reviewing the Parshiot of these last few weeks is how is it that the brothers never figured out that the viceroy of Egypt was Joseph. All signs pointed to his identity yet not one of them had the ability to surmise his identity. He recognized them right away but not vice versa. The answer of course is that when one is blinded by time and space then even the most obvious signals disappear. Israeli society was completely unprepared for the Yom Kippur war in October 1973 and ditto for the massacre in October 2023 fifty years later. This same visionless phenomenon is repeated over and over as we engage in the routineness of life without regard to the spiritualty of our environment and to the dangers that lurk right behind. The key to a more perfect religious world (and union) lies in our ability to recognize the challenges both physical and religious. In this way may we see the unity of Joseph and Yehudah along with Eretz Yisroel and Medinat Yisroel.

Am Yisroel Chai.

Good Shabbos
