¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

Yesterdays assault on our nation’s Capital shook (temporarily) our country’s core values of democracy and representative government. Thankfully the mob violence did not cause the massive damage it might have though tragically there was some loss of life. We are reminded however about much more severe consequences that did occur in other countries including the Bolshevik revolution of 1917 and the Nazi takeover of the Wiemar Republic in 1933. In both these cases agrieved followers of charismatic leaders stormed the palaces of government and established communist and fascist dictatorships. Those catastophic events resulted in millions and millions of deaths throughout the world including of course six million kedoshim. We shall also remember the many brave American and Allied soldiers who sacrificed their lives fighting for good over evil.

This week we begin reading SeferShemos which relates the saga of Pharaoh, the enslavement of Am Yisroel, the birth of Moshe and the ultimate redemption by Hashem. In Sefer Shemos we read how Pharaoh enlisted his people to his campaign but also caused untold suffering to their nation and themselves through the ten plagues. Ultimately they experienced the ultimate punishment by drowning in the Yam Suf after pursuing the newly freed nation.. The power potential of a demagogue to motivate regular people to defy logic and engage in self destructive behavior is exhibit A in sefer Shemos. Of course everything is from Hashem and ultimately it is our purpose in life to learn from life’s experiences, history and live a life of Torah and Mitzvos.

May Hashem continue to bless us with the great potentials of the United States.

Good Shabbos

REFUAH SH’LAIMAH:
To all those who are not well as well as those worldwide with this virus. We mention their names at each Torah reading and think about them in our private tefillos. Let Hashem hear our tefillos on their behalves, and all have a speedy recovery. If there is a choleh that needs a misheberach, please email their name to anshemotele@sbcglobal.net .
Since we are not at shul with Torah readings, in your private shmone esrai, you can include in the “Refaeinu” paragraph a special tefilla for the cholim that you have in mind.
