FOR WOMEN:

Shabbos’ Women’s Tehillim: Please join together “virtually” this Shabbos afternoon, 5:00 to recite Tehillim. It is more important now than ever that our community comes together for this all important service. May HKB”H answer our tefillos speedily.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

One of the more famous questions when studying Parshas Noach centers on the role of the Ark. For indeed Hashem did not need an Ark to save Noach, his family and the animal kingdom. A small archipelagos would do just fine. The answer is that the world needs to understand how Hashem keeps us afloat in the most darkest hours. This message resonates especiaally now with the social isolation we are facing due to covid. Now more than ever we resolve to stay afloat with the help of Hashem during these turbulent times.

Good Shabbos
Rabbi A. M. Abramson

REFUAH SH’LAIMAH:
To all those who are not well as well as those worldwide with this virus. We mention their names at each Torah reading and think about them in our private tefillos. Since we are not at shul with Torah readings, in your private shmone esrai, you can include in the “Refaeinu” paragraph a special tefilla for the cholim that you have in mind.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

This weekend marks a new beginning. Parshas Bereishis explores the creation of the universe by Hashem. While certainly mysterious in its development it is no secret that Hashem is its creator, continues to create, and Hashem is one. It is the core of our belief. As we head into the colder months with its shorter daylight hours and in the midst of a pandemic we renew our commitment to serve Hashem and the world he created.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

Shemini Atzeret/Simchas Torah is a fitting conclusion to these past seven and half weeks which began on Rosh Choesh Elul. Our prayers were very different yet very much the same. While we fast forwarded much of the tefillot we nevertheless prayed with as much if not more intensity than ever before. The covid pandemic has brought to the fore the temporariness of life and the importance of treating each day as gift from Hashem. Thus the simcha of Simchas Torah will hopefully be experienced emotionally even though we will not dance as usual. We pray that simcha will overcome despair and we will be experience geula speedily in our times.

Good Shabbos and Chag Someach.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

There is no other Chag than Sukkot that represents complete emunah in Hashem. We move out of our houses for a week’s time to sit, learn and sometimes sleep under the stars. Our focus is directed to the world of Hashem and especially immediately following Yom Kippur we are now spiritually prepared for this experience. This year we are even more prepared; for the social isolation, careful and cautionary changes in our routines has placed us all in a state of impermanence that dwarfs the Sukkah experience. Let us hope that this year’s experience will lead us to our permanent abode in Eretz Yisroel in the future Beit Hamikdash.

Good Shabbos and Chag Someach.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

This year on Yom Kippur like every other year we account for our actions and beg forgiveness. Subtly however, there are differences in approach and attitude. Because of covid some of us may feel guilty of not doing enough. Others may be dealing with the isolation or misgivings about not attending required events, visiting the sick, hosting company even including members of ones own family, or going to minyan daily. These are of course normal reactions but on Yom Kippur we internalize even more so. Our teshuva therefore should be directed at actions we are able to control rather than those beyond our capabilities especially in a climate of such uncertainty. In fact we should also account for that we did achieve as well. Despite the chaos beyond we managed to stay in touch. We davened at home to the best of our ability. We took care of our families in the best we know how. Our fervent hope is that this years Yom Kippur davening will strengthen us with a will to ask forgiveness, forgive others and pride at what we achieved.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

This year has been like none other. Yet here we are ready to head into the headwinds with hope, prayer and faith. Just thinking about the Unesana Tokef is enough to make us shiver let alone hear its words and repeat along with the Chazzan. We conclude with the eternal and hopeful prayer that repentance, prayer and charity may avert the evil decree. Shana Tova Umetuka.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

This weekend begins the official season of the Yomim Noraim as we commence the selichos prayers in preparation for Rosh Hashanna and Yom HaKippurim. Unfortunately we at the shul will not be convening at midnight due to Covid but we will start shul 15 minutes earlier every day to make amends. In fact making amends is the proper way after all, as that is a primary purpose of these coming weeks of intense prayer, proactive repentance, and acts of charity and good deeds. May we all be inscribed for a year of health peace and happiness.

Good Shabbos
Rabbi A. M. Abramson

REFUAH SH’LAIMAH:
To all those who are not well as well as those worldwide with this virus. We mention their names at each Torah reading and think about them in our private tefillos. Let Hashem hear our tefillos on their behalves, and all have a speedy recovery. If there is a choleh that needs a misheberach, please email their name to anshemotele@sbcglobal.net .
Since we are not at shul with Torah readings, in your private shmone esrai, you can include in the “Refaeinu” paragraph a special tefilla for the cholim that you have in mind.

Members Corner:

Happy Birthday to: Chana and Devorah Romirowsky, Sept 10
Happy Birthday to: Bari Fleischer Sept 10th

CALENDAR OF EVENTS: Please link to our SEPTEMBER calendars right here.

ROSH HASHANNAH/YOM KIPPUR:
Rosh Hashannah will be ushered in this Friday evening September 18th .
As the Covid-19 virus is causing major changes and uncertanty for the up-coming High Holiday schedules, we are trying to adapt and set our schedules for tefillos and create a safe environment for all of our members in the shul.

Working together with the CRC we have a tentative schedule for abridged tefillos that meet all halachik requirements and give us the feel of the awe of the time.

Seats will be assigned to our regular daily and weekly attending members first. We are not equipped to have anyone under bar or bat mitzvah.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

The Mitzvah of bikkurim is not just an opportunity to pay homage to God by bringing the first fruits. It is unique to only those who live in Eretz Yisroel. It is an opportunity to connect to the land as much as to God. Living in Eretz Yisroel, traversing its boundaries, davening at the Kotel all allow the inhabitant to strengthen ones connection to God and Eretz Yisroel. The two are intertwined forever.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

Now that both major political parties concluded their respective conventions, we who are concerned citizens with strong Jewish identity need to review the candidates positions, temperament and records. More importantly we also have a road map-the Torah to teach us right from wrong. This weeks Parshas Ki Tetze warns its readers against immorality and encourages proper behavior in society. Let us then take this guide and hold these truths to be self-evident.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

Its here already Rosh Chodesh Elul. We begin the sounding of the shofar, the recitation of extra prayers including L’Dovid Hashem Ori, along with a serious effort at retrospection, reflection and repentance. Our hopes, and desires for a healthy year together with a peaceful society especially in our city are at the forefront of our wish list as we engage in prayer, repentance and charity.
