¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

In today’s knowledge based world we have a tendency to overanalyze every political statement, nuanced communique, and summit handshake. This past week’s meetings between world leaders typifies thet very idea. Yet at some point we trust Hashem controls the world and we are but observors. Yes we do our utmost to protect our interests and help society but after all said and done we emphasize emunas Hashem.

We also have a tendency to attempt to understand every mitzvah in the Torah whether it be logical or not. The laws of the red heifer is a prime example. Chazal explain that a CHOK carries within it no inherent reason and while one may attempt to explain it, ultimately our purpose is to serve Hashem with or without understanding the deeper meaning of the mitzvot. Too often if someone may not be able to understand the underlying logic of the commandments, he or she may tune out from total observance, To this the Torah cries foul and is determined to remind us of our eternal obligation. Yes, please try to understand the chochmas Hashem, then know when to say we obey no matter what.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

We have all met them before. They are connivers, schemers, and fabricators. Though we can spot them a mile away, it does not stop them from perpetuating their story telling and fibs. Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota is exhibit A. During a Congressional hearing with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken she attempted to link Hamas and Israel in the same breath. Fortunately, nobody was fooled. Her bias and hatred of Jews was apparent from the very beginning. Many of her Democratic colleagues called it for what it was; a sneak attack to condemn Israel as a rogue terrorist State.

In this week’s Parshas Korach we read similarly of an incident where Korach attempted to stir a rebellion hiding behind code words and obfuscation. It did not work and to this day he will be remembered in infamy. We pray that Ms. Omar will learn her lesson and retreat from her anti-Semitic tropes or be swallowed by history as the hater she is.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

As of this moment it seems that there will be a new government in Israel sans Netanyahu and the religious parties. Many are bemoaning the transfer of power to a more centrist/secular regime. However, we must remember this week’s Parshas Shelach in which the nation was weakened by their trust in men (the spies) and not with Hashem. Governments come and go but the Land of Eretz Yisroel will continue to produce gedolim, Nobel laureates, high tech innovators, and courageous soldiers and citizens to protect the Jewish people the world over. May hashem bless Bennet, Lapid, and their respective followers with health wisdom and spiritual faith.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

The rise in anti-Semitic attacks against Jews in our country is not only alarming but its ferocity has taken a dangerous turn. We have been blessed for so many years to consider the United States a safe haven from the brutal public/private pogroms of Germany, Spain, Ukraine, and all the others. Today however we are witnessing increased anti-Semitic rhetoric from members of the United States Congress. Their unabashed criticisms of Jews trying to defend themselves from terrorists have emboldened the Jew haters hiding behind anti-Zionism.

This week’s Parsha Behalotcha is divided in two. The second half takes a distinct and tragic turn for the worse. Now the Bnei Yisroel are faced with the rebellion of the water, the spies and Korach. Their fate has been turned over in less than a moments notice. Only the passage of the Holy Ark being transported divides the two opposite poles of Jewish existence.

We remain steadfast in our resolve to combat antisemitism wherever and whenever necessary. We applaud the efforts of our fellow Jews in Israel defending not only their own citizens but Jews throughout the world. We pray for peace and geula in our time.
Am Yisroel Chai.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

As of this writing. press reports are rampant with an impending Israeli cease-fire. We pray (though realistically it is only a dream) that this will the last cease fire and the entire world including the violent Iranian regime will accept for once and for all the Jewish people’s inherent right to Eretz Yisroel.
This week’s Parshas Naso emphasizes the singularity of the Nasi of each tribe. The individual names are pronounced but the entire tribe is part of Klal Yisroel. This is our mission; to assert our individual personalities for the sake of the Kehilla. We must advocate for Israel even as we face adversity from a newly emboldened leftist (and rightest) agenda driven political class. Am Yisroel Chai.

Good Shabbos
Rabbi A. M. Abramson

REFUAH SH’LAIMAH:
To all those who are not well as well as those worldwide with this virus. We mention their names at each Torah reading and think about them in our private tefillos. Let Hashem hear our tefillos on their behalves, and all have a speedy recovery. If there is a choleh that needs a misheberach, please email their name to anshemotele@sbcglobal.net .
Since we are not currently making the Mishebarach at Torah readings, in your private shmone esrai, you can include in the “Refaeinu” paragraph a special tefilla for the cholim that you have in mind.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

Shavous commemorates the Mount Sinai encounter between Hashem, Moshe and the Jewish people. It also represents the culmination of the Passover Experience. That is why the Talmud refers to Shavous as Chag Hatzeres. The story of the enslavement by and the exodus from Egypt is the prerequisite for kabbalas Hatorah. Our freedom depends on servitude to Hashem through the mitzvot from Sinai and the opportunity of limud Hatorah. We pray that the events of these past few weeks in Israel shall quickly conclude with the world community understanding these very same ideals.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

The Mount Sinai experience as related in this weeks Parshas Behar emphasizes the importance of the minutia of Jewish law as revealed to Moses to be transmitted from generation to generation. This chain links us a Jewish people through the thousands of years of Jewish history and since the destruction of the Temple has been our foundation. When the tragedy at Meron occurred on Lag Bomer the entire country banded together to help. There was not an attempt to ignore the tragedy because the victims stemmed from the “ultra-orthodox.” There will be commissions and investigations that will recommend changes but for now our only reaction should be compassion and kindness. When the terrorist attacked the Dolphinarium discotheque in Tel Aviv the nation reacted similarly with revulsion, compassion, and unity. We, the Jews of the diaspora recognize the oneness of our people as we prepare to celebrate Yom Yerushalayim as one. Am Yisroel Chai.
Good Shabbos.
