¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

As the City Council voted (by a bare majority) in favor of a ceasefire resolution in Gaza, 3 more schoolchildren were shot at, one of them murdered outside their school (Senn H.S.) and the homicide rate in our city continues to increase, Ironically, the Israeli hostages in Gaza will eventually be freed but the citizens of this city will remain hostage to crime, poor performing schools and corruption that makes Mahmoud Abbas look like a choir boy. Why should parents be forced to send their children to poor performing public schools and repeat the generational mistakes of the past? Perhaps the city council might call for a ceasefire in a city that threatens every law-abiding citizen throughout the State. Instead, we are told to spray paint your catalytic converter, buy a club to protect from carjacking, get video cameras to deflect invasion, planters in front of stores to protect against smash and grab, and hire private security to protect houses of worship. Thank you to the “progressives” at City Hall for showing their true colors. They purposely thwarted any effort at compromise (see attached Rabbinic letter) to express progressive positions, and in fact if it hurts the Jews who in many respects form the foundation of liberal values then so much the better. The truth is we care more about our fellow citizens than do they. Our response should be prayer, advocacy, and resolve. This week’s Parshas Yisro recorded the Ten Commandments which require our belief that both the moral and religious laws are one before Hashem.
