The Jewish people not only realized the great dream of history but were renewed spiritually and emotionally. We take pride every day at this miraculous event and pray speedily for the Temple era as well.

¨From the Rabbi’s Study¨

Herman Wouk (Caine Mutiny, Margorie Morningstar, Winds of War) passed away last Friday at the age of 103. For those of us who grew up reading his books we remember his gifted storytelling, historical recollections, and Jewish anecdotes woven throughout his writings. More importantly Wouk stands out for his ardent defense of Jewish observance even as he was rising in popularity in the literary world. Thousands of Jewish homes display proudly on their bookshelves his famous classic “This is My God” in which he explains simply but thoroughly the intricacies and customs of Jewish law and ritual. He belonged to Orthodox Synagogues throughout his life, studied Torah and Talmud daily and sent his children to day school. May he be remembered by all of us who enjoyed his literary contributions and his proud identification with the Orthodox Jewish world.

I record the following quote made by Representative Rashid Tlaib of Michigan in a recent interview.

“There’s kind of a calming feeling I always tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors, Palestinians, who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people’s passports,” I mean, just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time, and I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away, right, and it was forced on them. And so when I think about a one-state, I think about the fact that, why couldn’t we do it in a better way.”

How these words may be interpreted any other way than delivered is preposterous. Read it for yourself and draw your own conclusions. I have nothing further to add. I’m speechless.

Yetta Saltzburg Z”L

We are saddened to announce the passing of Mrs. Yetta Saltzburg on Shmini shel Pesach.

The funeral will be at Cong. Anshe Motele 6520 N. California 1:30PM Sunday.

Shiva will be at her home 6600 N. Mozart through Friday.

Minyan schedule is same as the shul.

May her soul be bound in the bounds of eternal life.

These last days of Pesach allow us the last chance to eat matzo recite Yizkor review Shir Hashirim and contemplate the geulah of Eliyahu Hanavi . This is just a small part of what Pesach represents to Jews around the world whatever their particular persuasions. It is a time to share with family and friends at shul, the beis medrash, home or just an afternoon at the park. It is why Pesach is so special and leads us to conclude with the blessing of next year in Jerusalem.

This weekend is Shabbos Hagadol- the Great Sabbath because it was on this day prior to the exodus from Egypt that the Jewish nation readied the lamb for the Paschal offering and thus Hashem would “Passover” the Jewish homes and spare their first-born children. This mitzvah is the central theme of Pesach and assures that the special relationship between Hashem and the Jewish People is everlasting. That then becomes the essence of the Passover experience.
